Join our Regency Salon!

We’re opening up our retreat to talents from all across the Regency community! Music, singing, dance, poetry, or any kind of performance is welcome here!

Guidelines:

-Please keep your performance to 3 minutes or less

-Please submit your finished presentation by December 30, 2020 so that we have time to add closed captions and translate it into Spanish.

-Please keep your performance generally Regency themed (musical stylings, fashion, poetry, etc.)

-In the very unlikely case that there is an issue, we may have to humbly ask you to address it. For example if the audio is so poor we can't hear you we may have to request you re-record. Please watch your performance all the way through before submission. Thank you.

Recording tips:

For YouTubers or social media wizards this might seem very basic, so please don’t be offended. All of the suggestions and requests below are to help ensure a consistent standard of presentation throughout the weekend. Here are our general guidelines for performers:

-Camera: Unless yours is exceptional, NO laptop cameras please. If you are recording with your cell phone camera please use the rear-facing camera rather than the front camera. Please make sure you are recording in landscape rather than portrait orientation. Unless yours is outstanding, we do not recommend recording with a webcam.

-Lighting: Please make sure your light source is NOT behind you. Using 3 point lighting, with two soft boxes and a hair light, is great for indoor recording without harsh shadows. If you don’t have lighting equipment please make sure you have plenty of good natural light. If you are new to lighting and recording there are many YouTube tutorials or feel free to contact us for tips!

Background: Please no digital or “Zoom backgrounds”. Feel free to get creative with a setup that relates to your talk or a simple, clean background works well. You don’t want your background to look cluttered or too homey. The idea is to be intentional to give your video a polished look.

-Eye contact: Please make eye contact with the camera, and not with your monitor. This can be tricky! A virtual audience appreciates your eye contact just as much as a live audience!

-Speed: Please speak clearly and a bit more slowly than conversational pace (especially if you are a speed talker like me!). This may seem awkward but we are committed to close caption our weekend to make it accessible for all our friends. If we are very lucky we may even be able to provide Spanish translation (with the right volunteers)!

-Sound: Please make sure your sound recording is good and clear. You can ensure this by using a clip on or desktop microphone. This is very important. Please make sure your recording area is quiet. Close windows and doors and try to eliminate any possible background noise.

-Scripts: A script is not required, but if you have a script written out, please submit it along with your presentation so we can get started on closed captioning.
